The Pipila Monument
I named him George in my slide show and Charles did not agree. So here is the deal with George, I mean Juan Jose de los Reyes Martinez, 'El Pipila' is what they call him. In 1810 he was the hero of the struggle for Mexican Independence who, by setting fire to the city gates with a torch, made possible the taking of the Alhondiga de Granaditas on September 28, 1810. The statue what erected in 1939.

Why not George? I think it is easier to say than Jan Jose de los.....whatever....!!! ;-)
I'll bet the kids would've loved to climb all over "George". Or did they?
