Mexico City Temple

Missionary Training Center

We went to the Mexico City Temple open house. On the grounds here they have the MTC, dorms, distribution center, Church, visitor center, and Temple. The grounds are so beautiful. It is a peacefully place in the middle of a big town. Family in front of the Temple

It took us four hours, waiting in line to see the Temple. It was a wonder thing to have the whole family walk through the Temple together and to talk to them about it. Emma wanted to see Heavenly Father and Jesus while we were there and couldn't understand why they were not there to say hi to everyone while we were there.

We met Elder and Sister Wilson, who are serving a couples mission, while waiting in line. They are from Cache Valley and a wonderful couple we hope to see again when we move back home. They have been here long enough to know a lot of the language and even more of the missionaries that serve here.

Mexico City Temple

The Temple is the biggest I have ever been in. It is so beautiful and the chandeliers are so amazing. I am excited to be able to do Temple work here. We hope to return soon. The Temple will be dedicated on November 16.

Mineral De Pozos

This town is known as a ghost town. In the 1800's it had 80,000 people. It was a big and wealthy town. They mined all types of metals and rocks. In 1970 the last mine closed and only 12 people lived in the town. It now has 5,000 people in town.

Its amazing to see how big some of the mine owner's properties were. It would have been cool to see what they looked like back then.

Going Private

I decided some time ago that I would do as my sisters and make this blog private. We are doing it for the safety of our family to control who sees this information. Wikipedia Encyclopedia Info

I have been trying to find out more information on Fred. Our Spanish teacher came over yesterday afternoon and we showed it to her. She told us it is called an Alacran (accent on the last a) and very venomous. If it had stung anyone we would have had to make a visit to the hospital.

So this morning I looked it up on line and got this info from Wikipedia "It should be noted that many Mexican laypeople uses the word "alacrán" to describe the smaller, most venomous species of scorpions, which are very common in Mexico, while the word "escorpión" is used to describe the larger, darker and less venomous species."

Fred has given me a new look at living here. Now I turn lights on at night. Shake my shoes out before I put my feet in them, and think twice about letting my kids play out in the yard. One last thing I must say is "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"

Meet Fred

We moved three large sacks of wheat on Sunday afternoon destroying Fred's home. Monday morning our housekeeper started cleaning the main bathroom next to where the wheat was and found Fred. I guess we adopted Fred sometime when we got the wheat or just after. He is the first one we have seen and hopefully the last. Anyone want to come visit us, they are welcome. Oh, are you thinking twice now?

Fall in Mexico

This is looking down my street and the one below is a neighbors garden that I like. Quite a different look for fall, don't you think?

So this is fall in Mexico. The only reason I know it is fall is because it is cooler at night. The temperature is in the 50s at night and the 80s during the day. The other hint is that the rain has stopped. The leaves don't change here. They just die and fall off and the trees grow new leaves. At the food stands I am now seeing fruit I have never seen before. I will try to get pictures of the fruit when I visit a market again. Everyone is starting to wear jackets, even Charles when he goes to work in the morning. But we are never going to get as cold as Cache Valley. Congrats on your first snow fall. We won't see any snow here or even rain for winter. Guess we will just visit it come Christmas.

Fall Challenge

Me and Mexico have lots of fun together but I have come across something it does not have that my precious Cache Valley holds. Fall. The leaves changing, farmers plowing the fields, the crispness of the winter air getting ready to come. The smells of the canning and pumpkin pie. The fresh peaches from brigham city. It has become cooler here but the smells are not the same and the leaves don't change. I realized that fall will look differently in different parts of the world. So the challenge is to put a picture of fall in your area on your blogs. Then tell what you like about fall where you live. I will post my fall blog by the end of the week for you to see what fall looks like here in Mexico and tell you about it.
