San Joaquin, again!

Trip to Puebla

We took a weekend trip to Puebla. It is a beautiful city filled with history. Wonderful market streets with artists. We drove to a city next to Puebla called Cholula. It has an amazing pyramid and many smaller ones too. The original one was smaller and built for the god of the rain. They then built over that a much larger one for the god of the sun. When war was coming they covered the whole thing with dirt and planted crops so the enemy would not know it was there. It just looks like a small mountain. It made a fun weekend for us.

Easter Holiday!

The kids are out of school for two weeks. We have been busy with our friends, Andrea and her 4 kids, here. We went bowling and had an Easter party coloring eggs, playing games and making a girls fort. Of course mom forgot her camera (dad is better at remembering to take pictures) so I will try to get copies of the pictures Andrea took of the kids. Then on Friday and Saturday before Easter we had family time. We went to a pyramid, park, and then had pizza on Friday.

Then on Saturday we went to San Miguel, again. We were planning to go to a water park in San Miguel but when we arrived at 10:30am it was already packed of people. No limits on how many people a water park can have. I am sure they were way over the limit of a water park back home. So we went down town and followed a tour in a book we have. That was fun following the map and reading about the places in the book. We finished the day with Joshua's birthday party.

On Easter Sunday the kids got up before us and found their baskets. So they had fun and now have too much candy. Then we went to church and listened to the testimonies (Fast Sunday). It was a beautiful day.

Tula

On February 28, Happy Birthday Jake, we went to Tula with a club we joined. The club has people from all over the world. It is fun to do things with them and go to places we might not have know about if it wasn't for them. The first two pictures were extras on the camera so I just put them on here. We are totally enjoying Mexico and the awesome weather.

Pyramids near San Joaquin

San Joaquin

Joe Christensen from Charles' work told him to come look for these pyramid ruins. He gave very clear instructions how to get there. So after climbing Bernal we decided to see if we could find this place. Little did we know that we would be driving two hours to find it and that it would go 33 km up some switch back mountains. There is no shoulder on the drop off side, no guard rails, no safety protection. All you do is look down, lose your breath, and then say a little prayer. It is so amazingly high. The area before this place is dead, rocks and not a pretty drive through a town know as marble town.

It makes you wonder why they would have pyramids here. But as your going up this mountain towards the end it suddenly turns into what looks like a rain forest. It is so amazing to see the shade of greens and the clouds as they come past you. San Joaquin is a small beautiful town on the top of a mountain. They have two sites of pyramids, some caves, and waterfalls. Because we got there one hour before closing we just went to this site. We hope to return to see the rest. Just as we were going to do a family photo we felt a rain drop. Then a down pour. We were soaked through by the time we got to the car. We asked the kids what their favorite part was and they said the rain. It took three hours to get home but it was so worth it.

Local Pyramid

This pyramid is in our area. When others came to the areas with the pyramids, they covered the pyramid with dirt and built their church on top. Lately the Mexican people have began uncovering the pyramids and have found many artifacts. This is about 10 to 15 minutes from our home. The Temple of the Sun is 3 hours away, just north of Mexico City.
Charles went to a soccer game with a big group from work. He had a lot of fun. I just like the picture, he is so cute. They ended up on the news, they were all dressed alike. The group went to a taco place after. It was hard to find a place for all of them because everyone from the game had the same idea. Tacos are so good there, not anything like tacos in the states.

Pyramids

Isn't it so awesome. I loved seeing this. You can climb to the top which is totally cool. You can see how big the city use to be. The pyramid behind us is the Temple of the Sun. We went early in the morning so there were not many people there. It's a good climb at the end but the view is so worth it.
There are a series of stairs you climb up and down between the pyramids and the city. Through all of these is a tunnel. Josh had fun going through a lot of them. Marissa and Rachel could fit through this one with Josh.
This was taken from the Temple of the Moon looking at the Temple of the Sun. If you go straight on down the road you then come to the city. It is so big I wish I had a clear picture of that. You don't get a feel how big it is when your down in it but looking from the top of the Temple of the Sun you can see it all. So awesome, you will have to come see for yourself.
